"Growers Protest 'Malpractices' in Wheat Procurement Process."

07 Apr 2015

While wheat growers in several districts of the interior of Sindh on Sunday continued their protest over unavailability of gunny bags and an inordinate delay in the procurement of the crops, the Sindh Chamber of Agriculture (SCA) has expressed its concern over the provincial government's indifferent attitude towards the growers' woes. An SCA meeting held here on Sunday under the chairmanship of Syed Aijaz Nabi Shah appealed to Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah to ensure speedy procurement of wheat crop as per the decision recently taken by the government. It also urged the government to hold an inquiry into alleged misappropriation of Rs9 billion funds meant for the purchasing and distribution of gunny bags in the process. It demanded action against all food officials found involved in the malpractices and corruption.
